Gallowgate Masterplan
Client: PPP between Glasgow City Council and Strathcarron

Preparation of a masterplan and development framework for an area immediately to the east of of the city centre, adjacent to a high level railway line, intended to deliver the proposed Cross Rail project.

The masterplan envisages the creation of a mixed development, with residential space over commercial ground floor uses. The proposal focuses on a new civic space adjacent to a proposed new station / transport interchange, with a landmark building to signify the importance of the location.

For long a transitional zone between the city centre and the Barras market area, development pressure has recently become intense with major redevelopment proposals for the former railyard marshalling area to the north.
A hierarchy of new and improved connections provides east west and north south connectivity, with development heights reflecting the importance of these connections.
